    JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Governor on Thursday declared a state of emergency in Missouri in response to severe winter weather that began early in the morning, bringing hazardous travel and the possibility of power outages. The weather system has involved a mix of snow, sleet and ice throughout the state, with forecasts of 10 inches or more of snow in some parts of the state and a wintry mix across many other regions of Missouri.

    SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Federal Aviation Administration&nbsp;requires anyone flying a drone to go through an approval process. For public agencies, it&rsquo;s something called a<a title="FAA information on COA" href="http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/ato/service_units/systemops/aaim/organizations/uas/coa/"> &ldquo;Certificate of Waiver of Authorization to operate Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)&rdquo;</a>in the United States. A UAS or drone is defined by the FAA as, &ldquo;the unmanned aircraft (UA) and all of the associated support equipment, control station, data links, telemetry, communications and navigation equipment, etc., necessary to operate the unmanned aircraft.&rdquo;

  5. National Weather Service: Some Joplin residents ignored tornado warning on May 22

    JOPLIN, Mo.-- According to a report released Tuesday, local authorities responded effectively to the tornado here on May 22, but there's always room for improvement, especially when it comes to telling people that they must take cover now.&nbsp; The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration finds people in Joplin had plenty of time to find shelter, a full 17 minutes but, unfortunately, most people did not drop what they were doing when the warning was issued.
