Henry Prillaman of Newport News is the third seed in the Virginia State Men’s 45 Clay Court Championships, which are at Hilton Tennis Club in Newport News through Sunday.
Top-seeded Leonard Booker of Northern Virginia, former champ Brad Baylor and former U.Va. No. 1 player Darryl Wilburn of the Richmond area are among the other top entrants.
Prillaman, one of the area's better local league players, has spent more time watching his kids -- Grace and William -- compete in USTA tournaments than playing in them himself the past few seasons.
The tournament began Friday, with the following scores:
Shaun Morse d. Coke Henderson 6-0, 6-0; David Anderson d. Andrew Mefferd 6-1, 6-1; Darryl Wilburn d. John Cunningham 6-1, 6-0; Brad Baylor d. Randy Wright 6-1, 6-2.
