  5. Give Howard Baldwin Credit For Trying, But The NHL Dream Is Dead — For Now

    The Hartford Courant
Major league dreams, it turns out, came with minor-league bills Howard Baldwin could not pay. And 2 1/2 years after Baldwin stuck his hockey banner back into downtown Hartford's soil, we can safely say the NHL isn't walking through his door. But plenty...

  9. Rolling Stones tickets remain

Prime tickets remain available for all three of the Rolling Stones’ upcoming Chicago shows, though given the lofty ticket prices, it would be a stretch to conclude that the band is in any financial peril.

  13. New AEG chief executive has own style

The walls and shelves of Dan Beckerman's downtown Los Angeles office speak more about his largely unknown but deep involvement in AEG's success than Beckerman himself is comfortable saying.

National Football League, meet your worst nightmare: a potential team owner who can call his own shots.
National Football League, meet your worst nightmare: a potential team owner who can call his own shots. Or wasn't that the signal flashed last week by Phil Anschutz, 100% owner of AEG and master of the downtown football stadium site that the league...

  19. Tim Leiweke: L.A. muscle man

How significant was Tim Leiweke to the deal between Anschutz Entertainment Group and Los Angeles for a football stadium? This is how significant: There is an escape clause in the agreement that makes the deal's closing contingent on either Leiweke's still being in place as chief executive officer or "a qualified replacement" having been named as his successor. The city gets to make that call, though it promises to "act reasonably" in determining whether the replacement is qualified. That language was placed in the agreement specifically because the city's trust in the deal was based largely on its faith in Leiweke.

  21. NFL probably won't like this Philip Anschutz

Philip Anschutz doesn't get pushed around. He's a billionaire who makes business deals with his head, not his heart. When he sets his mind to something, he stands firm. In other words, he's not likely to bring an NFL team back to Los Angeles....

  23. Tim Leiweke was the Kings' top boss and their top fan

Tim Leiweke spent his last evening as president and chief executive of AEG watching the Galaxy defeat Costa Rica's Herediano at the Home Depot Center. Had the Kings been home Leiweke might have been at Staples Center, cheering from the corner season seats he bought so he could vent his passion more freely than he could in a remote suite.
