8. Crosswalk warning lights: wrong location?

Q: It was interesting to read about the high-tech illuminated crosswalk systems being installed along Chew Street through the Muhlenberg College campus to help improve pedestrian safety. However, most pedestrians at the college are young, healthy people. Why not prioritize, installing the most effective crosswalk warnings at locations such as 17th and Chew, where visitors to Lehigh Valley Hospital tend to be older and possibly ill, or Good Shepherd, where handicapped pedestrians abound?

  10. Allentown bicycle plan would eliminate traffic lanes

Q: Allentown seems to be pushing forward with proposed bicycle-lane 'improvements' that concern many residents and businesspeople along the affected routes. Officials want to eliminate traffic lanes on parts of Linden and Turner streets, which would be bad enough any time, but will cause gridlock when hockey arena traffic is added. I think the city has dramatically underestimated the effects of these bike lanes on traffic flow and parking availability. Many more motorists will be affected negatively than bicycle riders who will benefit. The public has to get involved with this before the city goes too far with it. Can you help us get the word out?
