7. 'Django Unchained' is Tarantino, undisciplined ★★

In "Django Unchained," which has its moments of devilish glee in and among dubious wallows in numbing slaughter, writer-director-trash compactor Quentin Tarantino delivers a mashup of several hundred of his favorite movies, all hanging, like barnacles, onto a story of a freed slave (Jamie Foxx) and his bounty-hunter savior (Christoph Waltz) out to rescue Django's wife (Kerry Washington) from a venal plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio). The plantation's "house slave" (Samuel L. Jackson) has no divided loyalties in the eventual standoff.

  15. Golden Globes 2013: Affleck, Tarantino, Dunham hit the parties

The Golden Globes ceremony is a party all on its own, but the real fun happens at the after parties, most of which take place at different sites at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Because the parties — including those thrown by HBO, Warner Bros./InStyle, Weinstein Co., Fox and NBC Universal — are all within a short walk of one another, the stars can be seen bounding between multiple locations like excitable college kids on rush day.

  17. Golden Globes 2013: What did all the stars munch on?

The Golden Globes are synonymous with red-carpet gowns, hair blowouts and diamonds galore, but even the celebrities squeezing into teeny-tiny dresses have to eat. So what do you feed a room full of Hollywood's most famous stars? Champagne, sushi, burgers, fries and brownies, of course.

  19. Film review: Quentin Tarantino ropes himself a Western with 'Django Unchained'

As diverse as Quentin Tarantino's first films (“Reservoir Dogs,” “Pulp Fiction,” “Jackie Brown”) were in tone (tragic, comic and romantic, respectively), they all took place within roughly the same world and the same genre — urban crime. The iconic status that accrued to him in that genre could easily have hardened into a straitjacket. In addition, his dialogue is so relentlessly contemporary that he seemed about as well suited for a 19th century period piece as Ang Lee was for a CGI superhero project like “Hulk.”

  23. Samuel L. Jackson on slavery, entertainment, guns in 'Django'

Samuel L. Jackson has incarnated some colorful, fast-talking characters in Quentin Tarantino movies over the years, such as his scripture-quoting hit man Jules Winnfield in "Pulp Fiction" and scheming gun runner Ordell Robbie in "Jackie Brown."
