The gifted and talented education students at Ruth Ann Monroe Primary School collected canned food donations for The Salvation Army between Oct. 26 and Dec. 6. The students set a goal of 700 items, but went well beyond that in generating donations of 1,101 items.

Second-grade students counted and boxed the items to distribute to The Salvation Army.

The students learned valuable lessons about working with a community agency and doing good things for other people.
