Arnoldo Jimenez is accused of murdering his wife, Estrella Carrera, less than 48 hours after they were married. (HANDOUT / May 15, 2012) |
A manhunt was immediately launched for her husband, Humberto Betito Jimenez, 30, who is believed to have fled the scene in his black 2006 Maserati.
Last week, a DEA sweep uncovered the Maserati, which still had blood stains and other evidence inside, according to Burbank police Capt. Joseph Ford.
The DEA was arresting two of Jimenezs brothers in connection with drug offenses during the sweep, Ford said.
Weve been working with the feds due to the parallel of cases since our victim was murdered, Ford said.
The fact that the 2006 black Maserati was at the brothers house was a bonus, he said.
Burbank police believe its possible that Jimenez is in Mexico.
Were still following leads, but there is a very good likelihood that hes there and feels safe there, Ford said.
Two of Jimenezs brothers have drug-related rap sheets, including drug trafficking convictions.
Obviously, hes getting assistance from some family members, Ford told the Chicago Tribune.
Were sort of tying their hands here in the Chicagoland area now. Theres pressure on the family.
The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to Jimenezs arrest.
