Residents called authorities when the bear had climbed up a tree in the 13000 block of Whistler Avenue.
After the animal climbed down, it walked around the neighborhood as residents watched and took cell phone videos.
The bear then took a dip in a backyard pool with helicopters watching overhead.
"My grandson came outside and he said, 'Grandpa, there's a lot of people outside,'" resident Sarge Jabbour said.
"So I came outside and they said, 'There's a bear!' I ran outside and I see him hobbling down the street. Soon as the neighbors came out he got scared and ran up the tree."
"Me and my girlfriend were at the park," resident Eduardo Rodriguez said. "We were just talking and we see a bear walking by. We chased after him and we called the animal service."
After the excitement, the bear made its way up into the hills above Granada Hills and disappeared.
Wildlife experts will continue to monitor the neighborhood.
They encourage anyone encountering a wild animal to keep their distance.
