Isaac D. Schantz, 73
He was born Feb. 25, 1939, in Petoskey, the son of Isaac J. and Harriet B. (Burke) Schantz, and married Judith L. Nethercott on Aug. 22, 1959, in Petoskey. He graduated from St. Francis High School in Petoskey and served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired captain from the Michigan Department of Corrections after 28 years, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson and of the Knights of Columbus Council 3221 at Hudson, and Deputy Grand Knight of Council 8152 in Crossville, Tenn.
Surviving besides his wife, Judith, are his sons, Donulus (Yun Hee), Thomas (KimBerly), Ronald (Yolanda), Richard (Kathleen); his daughters, Lucy Rogers, Monica (David) Staley, Juanita Schantz, Carolyn (Randy) Cameron, Cynthia Schantz, Mary Walker, Rebecca (Tory) Neely; 53 grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, seven stepgreat-grandchildren; brothers, Francis Schantz, Bernard Schantz and Peter Schantz; and sisters, Anna Mae Ryan, Bertha Dellapenta, Theresa Donnelly and Rose Ann O'Rourke-Borors. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Ann; grandson, Isaac Schantz; great-grandson, Isiah Miley; his parents; brothers, John, Joseph, Louis, Fred, Alfred and Thomas; and sister, Sr. Lucretia.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson with the Rev. Joseph Krupp and deacon Anthony Nethercott officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Hudson with military honors conducted by the Hannan-Colvin Post No. 180, American Legion of Hudson. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, with Knights of Columbus Honor Guard, in the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson with a prayer service at 6 p.m.
