The sheriff's office continues to investigate the Oct. 2 murder of Lyle Kopenkoskey, a 58-year-old Petoskey resident whose body was discovered early on Oct. 3 near his parked vehicle in Resort Township.
Wallin said in today's release that citizens should be concerned at any time when a homicide occurs in the county. But he added that at this time, the investigation indicates the murder was planned and not a random act of violence.
The sheriff added that his office is awaiting the results of several lab tests and evidence submitted to the Michigan State Police crime lab and Spectrum Health before submitting a report to the prosecutor's office.
Wallin continues to ask citizens for any information they have relating to this investigation. Those with information are asked to contact sheriff's D/Sgt. JL Sumpter at (231) 439-8901 or the sheriff's office tip hotline at (231) 439-8939.
