    By the time director Stanley Kurbick made his last film <em>Eyes Wide Shut</em> in 1999, the censors weren't nearly as harsh as they were when he made <em>Lolita</em> in 1960. Still Warner Brothers had to cut lots of the good stuff out of <em>Eyes Wide Shut</em> so that it could get an R rating, so it could potentially make some money at the box office, but the director's cut can now be seen on DVD, true to Kubrick's vision. With <em>Lolita </em>however, Kurbick later claimed he wouldn't have even bothered making the film if he knew how much content was going to get cut out, and at the time there was no such thing as DVD director's cuts. It's based on Vladimir Nabokov's controversial novel about a middle aged man who becomes obsessed with a teenage girl. See it for free at Norwalk Community College Thursday night. <strong></strong>
