  5. Sports Network predicts Syracuse win over Butler

The fifth-seeded Bulldogs are appearing in the " Sweet 16" for the fourth time in program history, and the third time in the last eight years. Butler, which hasn't lost a game since bowing to UAB (67-57) in non-conference action back on December 22nd, ran the table in the Horizon League with an 18-0 mark and won the league title going away. After capturing the conference tournament with a 70-45 thrashing of Wright State, the Bulldogs set their sights on a bigger prize and defeated UTEP in the first round of the 72nd annual NCAA Tournament by a score of 77-59. Last Saturday, the team slipped by a surprising Murray State squad with a narrow 54-52 final to advance in the West Regional.

  17. Wes' Mess: Bracketless

For the first time in my collective memory, I did not fill out an NCAA bracket. Not a single one. Not for money, not for fun. To all those folks who invited me to join various pools and online groups, thanks for the offer. Nothing personal, just trying to do something different and bizarre. This isn't a lazy moment, I didn't sleep the past 4 days away. Like Say Anything, this is by choice. Making this a chance to learn something about myself and sports sociology.

  19. Go With The Flo

So the first weekend of the NCAA tournament has ended and I, like many others I'm sure, am not sitting in a position to have a possibility of winning in any of the pools that I entered. Like any other year, I go in to it, hoping for the best, throwing all logic out the window and just picking the teams that jump out at me. Making sure that I throw in an upset here or there. So after the Kansas debacle, I wanted to throw my brackets in the garbage, along with logic and even the possible continuance of filling out a bracket in the future. After doing these brackets so many times over the years with my family which consists of me and my two sisters, my mother and my father (poor guy I know) , I have realized, there is no one way of choosing the right team. Each family member has come up with their own profound way of choosing teams, and I will discuss them in order of least successful to most successful.

  21. Wes' Mess

Another thing that makes that weekend special is the NABC Convention that is held in conjunction with the games in the Final Four city. Coaches from all levels are in town, usually wearing team colors. The standard sweatsuit and sneakers look. There are literally thousands of college coaches walking around downtown. "Hey look it's Tubby Smith!!!" "Lon Kruger just jumped out of that cab." or sometimes, "It's that coach from that school." In 2006, newly hired Kelvin Sampson was being paraded downtown like a show-horse by then-IU AD Rick Greenspan. That turned out well for both guys.
