  5. Crime & Punishment: Medical Worker Arrested For Showing Her Husband Adam Lanza's Body

<strong>"I want to say I'm truly sorry for the mistakes I've made in my life,"</strong> said former state Sen. Ernie Newton as he campaigned to regain his old seat last May. Those mistakes were spelled out in the corruption charges that landed Newton in prison in 2005. The 17-year legislator from Bridgeport was convicted of tax evasion, accepting a bribe and funneling campaign money to his personal account. After his four-year sentence, Newton surprisingly ran to regain his old seat with a message "about forgiveness, redemption and opportunity." In fact, Redemption and Opportunity was the name of an hourlong film a campaign staffer made about him. Newton went on to lose to State Rep. Andres Ayala, Jr., in a Democratic primary. Last week, he was arrested on charges of campaign finance fraud, reports the Connecticut Post. Elections officials say that Newton failed to raise the $15,000 a candidate needs to be eligible for public financing by $500, so &mdash; as he was spouting off about "redemption" &mdash; he falsified campaign finance records.

  23. Connecticut's Sushi Renaissance: Where to Get Great Sushi Around Hartford & New Haven

Connecticut is experiencing a Japanese renaissance. That's easy to see in greater Hartford, where a Hibachi restaurant just moved into Prospect Plaza, Umi in Blue Back Square has brought conveyor belt sushi to the region, and the line at Ichiban was practically out the door on an otherwise dead and frigid Sunday night in the West End. In New Haven, chef Ming Lau of Miso says the resurgence is a good decade old, and customers are increasingly discovering the sinfully high-end Chef Tasting service, in which a chef panders to a customer's personal tastes.
