Jets rough up Colts

New York grabs a first half lead and holds off the inconsistent Colts in a 35-9 victory.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - The positive vibes generated in a sea of pink and orange a week earlier were drowned out in a wave of green Sunday afternoon.

After a young Colts team surprised many in the National Football League with a comeback win over the Packers on October 7th, but were humbled by a Jets team looking for redemption of their own.

New York finally found consistency on offense and smothered quarterback Andrew Luck in the Colts offense in a 35-9 victory Sunday afternoon at Met Life Stadium. New York running back Shonn Greene rushed for a career-high 161 yards and three-touchdowns in the victory.

Indianapolis falls to 2-3 on the season and will host the Browns next Sunday afternoon at 1 P.M. at Lucas Oil Stadium.

For a second consecutive week the Colts found themselves playing catch-up for most of the first half. After a first quarter Adam Vinatieri field goal gave the Colts and early lead the Jets found offensive traction, driving 80 yards in 14 plays late in the first and early in the second quarter.

Stephen Hill capped the drive with a five-yard touchdown catch from Mark Sanchez to give the Jets their first lead. New York would score on the following possession after a Luck interception gave them the ball at the Colts' 35-yard line. Greene would cap a short drive with a 10-yard touchdown to make it 14-3.

It appeared the Colts might have a bit of life towards the end of the half when Vinatieri booted a 50-yard field goal with 6:11 left in the quarter. But New York showed their element of surprise through Tim Tebow late in the half, as the quarterback took a direct snap on a punt and completed a 23-yard pass before the two minute warning.

The Jets made the most of the opportunity as Sanchez found Jason Hill for a five-yard touchdown to make it 21-6 at the break.

Unlike the Packers' game the Colts couldn't pick up any early second half momentum as the Colts' offense could only muster a pair of first downs. Greene would add his second touchdown of the day late in the quarter to push the lead to 28-6.

Vinatieri would add a field goal in the fourth quarter to pull the Colts within 19 points and the Colts were able to get the next drive inside the red zone. But Luck was intercepted by Joe McKnight in the endzone to end the Colts' threat to get back into the game.

After a Luck fumble, the Jets added their final points of the game on a two-yard touchdown run by Greene.
