Jill Behrman was 19 when she disappeared on May 31, 2000. Spierer, who is 20, vanished nearly 11 years later to the date. Behrman's body was later found and her family is offering the Spierer family their support.
Most of the searchers who looked for Lauren Speirer know the Bloomington landscape and many even know Lauren herself. But no one knows the pain the IU student's parents must be enduring. No one except Eric Behrman.
"As soon as I heard about it I knew the feelings for the family," said Behrman.
Tragedy taught Eric Behrman what the Sperier family is going through. His daughter Jill disappeared almost 11 years ago to the day. It took years for the Behrman's to find out what happened to Jill and longer still before the man responsible for her daughter's death was brought to justice. Right now, it all sounds disturbing familiar.
"It's important that we get the word out that there's a 20 year-old missing from Bloomington. She may not be in Bloomington anymore, but we all need to keep our eyes open and bring her back to her parents."
The Behrmans have reached out to the Speirer family for support, but so far, they have not talked. Eric Behrman says he understands exactly what they're feeling.
"A little pain, a little anger, a lot of being upset and worried not knowing what needs to be done, but wanting to do everything to find her and bring her home."
The man convicted in the disappearance and killing of Jill Behrman is serving a 65 year prison sentence.
