Spierers plead for 'small miracle' in New Year's letter

The family of missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer released a new letter just before the New Year.

In the letter published on the family’s website FindLauren.com, Lauren’s parents and sister ask for a ‘small miracle’.


“We hope that YOU, the person who took Lauren, will finally have the courage to end this nightmare for our family,” read the letter.

Tuesday marks the seventh month the 20-year-old has been missing.  Lauren was last seen in the early morning hours of June 3, walking in Bloomington after a night out partying with her friends.

Lauren’s family has worked tirelessly to find their daughter and to uncover new information surrounding their daughter’s disappearance. Bloomington police have named several persons of interests in the case, but there are no named suspects at this time.

The Spierers hired private investigator Bo Dietl to further investigate. When asked by WNYW in New York if their private investigator found out anything the police did not, the Spierer’s replied ‘yes.’  

Lauren’s family returned home to New York for Hanukkah and the New Year, the first holiday season without their loved one.

“Words cannot express the sadness which fills our hearts in Lauren’s absence,” said the family in their letter. “As the New Year approaches, we pray for answers and for Lauren’s safe return.”
