The company announced the peanut butter could be contaminated with salmonella.

An Ohio-based company is recalling its Smucker’s Natural Peanut Butter Chunky product sold in Indiana and several other states.  

J.M. Smucker Co. announced the peanut butter could be contaminated with salmonella.

The 16-ounce jars suspected of having the contamination have the “Best if Used By” dates of August 3, 2012 and August 4, 2012.  The production codes 1307004 and 1308004 will also appear.  

Smucker’s Natural Peanut Butter Chunky was distributed to the following states:

Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.

Salmonella is bacteria which causes diarrhea, cramping and a fever within eight to 72 hours.
