click here for today's UV indexQ: Why do I get a sunburn on a cloudy day?

A: Ultraviolet radiation can get through clouds... so it's possible to get nasty burn even on a "sunless" or cloudy day.

In fact, it's the time of year when you get a burn without even trying.

Take the sunscreen with you... at least SPF 15, but 30 is even better. You can check the UV Index every day on our almanac page.  If you can, stay out of the sun between the peak sun hours of 10 am to 4 pm.

Since 1 in 5 get skin cancer from ultraviolet radiation, take the threat seriously... and cover up with clothing, wear sunscreen and shield your eyes with sunglasses that have UVA and UVB protection.
