This is the tornado that went through Picher OK in May 2008. It destroyed a 20 square block area of Picher, killing 7 and injuring more than 30. This town is part of a superfund project that is being bought out because of the amount of lead in the soil, and elevated lead levels in the people of Picher. Unfortunately, the tornado hit the "newer" part of Picher. The photos taken was on the farthest north end of Picher pointing to the south end of Picher.

Wow this looks like a horror movie

No, I live in a different state. These were taken by a cousin of mine. I grew up not far from Picher- and because my grandparents lived in Picher, I knew of the area hit. Luckily, none of my family or their homes were hurt.

can you give us more info on the superfund thing?

WOW! That is huge! I live in Buffalo, Missouri and we was hit with an EF2 tornado in April but it wasn't quite that scary looking. God Bless ya'll.

For more information about Picher OK and the superfund project, go to http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/ creekrunsred/film.html . This show was aired in this area not more than a month before the tornado hit Picher.
