Twice a year, during the spring equinox and during the fall equinox, it is possible to stand an egg on end. I stood this one on end at 6:30 AM on September 21, 2008, and stood the second one on end at 9:00 AM on September 21, 2008. At 12:50 PM they were still standing. You have to find the right hour during the equinox, but it is possible to do it.

This is folklore. You can do this anyday, anytime of the year... gravity pulls the yolk down, and if you hold it in place for a few minutes (or are lucky to have a flat spot on the egg)... you'll be in luck. http://www.snopes.com/science/equinox.asp

I tried this at home and I didn't look up any time. All you need is some spare minutes and an egg with a "flatter" bottom.
