(Branson, MO) - When 44 people stepped onto the scale September 8, 2008, they had no idea the success story they would soon become a part of. For nearly six months the Hometown Radio Lighten up for Life participants worked out with personal trainers at Skaggs Health and Fitness Center, and in the process lost a total 931 pounds.
The group of 44 participants was divided into two teams, A.M. and P.M. Whether they hit the gym in the morning or evening, both teams worked with Skaggs Health and Fitness Center personal trainers on a comprehensive weight loss and fitness plan designed to help them lose weight and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
Every other week two people from each team were eliminated until a final four was established: Bradshaw Smith, Jim Rayle, Katy Lathrup, and Tim Corbell. Their final weigh-in was during the Hometown Radio Health and Family Fair, presented by Skaggs Regional Medical Center.
Bradshaw Smith started the challenge at 370 pounds and ended at 280 pounds. With a total weight loss of 90 pounds, Smith took home the grand prize, a FREE one-year membership to Skaggs Health and Fitness Center and a FREE, 7-day cruise provided by Ozark Country Vacations and Cruises. Smith says, “Anyone can do it if they put their mind to it. Weight has always been a huge problem for me, diet after diet didn’t work. Finally, the personal trainers at Skaggs Health and Fitness Center gave me the education and tools to help me live a healthier life. Not only did I lose weight, but my blood pressure went from 190/90 to 125/70.”
Jim Rayle began his six-month journey at 356.5 pounds and lost 75 pounds, bringing his weight down to 281.5 pounds. He says, “I have a 5-year-old little girl who I wanted to live a healthier life for. I have been overweight since a child, but Skaggs Health and Fitness Center put together a program that works, it’s phenomenal.”
Tim Corbell dropped from 431 to 369 pounds and became emotional when he spoke of the 62 pounds he lost and the support he’s received from his wife. He says, “This program has just changed my life.”
Katy Lathrup is now 59 pounds lighter, dropping from 298 pounds to 239 pounds. She says, “The trainers may say we did all the work, but when you walk into a gym surrounded by physically fit people and you’re not one of them, it’s intimidating. The trainers at Skaggs know you by name and welcome you with open arms. I learned so much from them.”
