My son Nate was driving home and caught this north of Highway 60 at the Macomb Exit on Monday evening.

That picture is a pretty good one

Mercy! We think he should have made a U-turn and headed back for the basement! Spooky looking for sure!!!

the pictcher look cool

No storms last night were rotating... it's likely a rainfoot, or downward moving air that's condensing the moisture as it cools... making a nifty shape that appears to be touching the ground. But not a tornado or funnel.

And on further examination of the weather pattern... it was most likely a shelf cloud, which indicates a gust front... and does not produce torandoes or funnels. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcus_cloud

Good picture. I think the best pheonomenon I have personally seen are: A roll cloud in Springfield back in '86 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Weather/Selected_picture/02/2009 Two ball lightning floating next to each other in Republic around

'76 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball_lightning and a full circle rainbow in Springfield at winter time caused by ice crystals floating in the atmosphere. http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/images/2007/08/07/q1x00163_9.jpg
