This dragonfly-looking insect was on my porch railing. I wondered if anyone knew what kind he (she) is.

The other picture is of this year's porch spider. I used the wrong setting but the picture came out kind of nice.

I call them flycatchers. Many times I have seen them with flies they have caught clutched in up against them. They seem to be very benificial insect.

This is a robber fly. They are highly predatory, some can catch wasps as big as yellow jackets. Don't worry, it won't bite you, but it loves to catch pesky flies. There seem to be a lot of these this year. Nice photo of one.

Thanks to all. It's a red-footed cannibal fly, according to bugguide. It is a member of the robber fly family.
