Springfield’s Fed Med reports inmate death related to COVID-19

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - An inmate at Springfield’s Medical Center for Federal Prisoners died from complications of COVID-19.
Richard James, 61, tested positive for the virus on December 10. Medical staff transported him to a Springfield hospital days later. He died on December 27. James suffered from long-term pre-existing medical conditions.
A judge sentenced him to a life sentence for for racketeering and murder for hire convictions. He had been at the Springfield prison since 2013.
Fed Med in Springfield houses 806 prisoners.
