GET A SHOT, GET A JOB: Missouri Job Center to combine hiring event with vaccine clinic next week in Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - The Missouri Job Center in Springfield is holding another drive-thru a job fair next week, but this one has an added feature in a vaccine clinic.
The “Get a Shot, Get a Job” vaccine clinic will be held at the Missouri Job Center site on East Sunshine Street from 9 a.m. to noon next Wednesday, June 9.
The Missouri Job Center is expecting more than 30 employers to be on site, including new businesses like Costco, Weekends Only Furniture, and Missouri Prime Beef Packers. It’s also the first time the Department of Corrections will be at one of their events.
People can visit with employers, and when they’re finished, step inside the Missouri Job Center for a COVID-19 vaccine. They’re partnering with the Springfield-Greene County Health Department to offer the shots.
Job Center staff say the event is very timely, and strategically planned, because the $300 federal unemployment supplement due to the pandemic will end June 12 in Missouri.
“That could be money that’s lost if you are exposed to COVID-19 or get it on the job. So getting vaccinated at the same time somebody is job searching can actually help protect their employment, protect their income once they find the job here at the job fair,” says Aaron Schekorra, Springfield-Greene County Health Department.
Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be available. The vaccine clinic is open to anyone, not just job seekers.
The Missouri Job Center has held seven drive-thru job fairs in the last year between its Springfield and Branson centers. For more information on the hiring events, CLICK HERE.
