Police identify victim in deadly shooting in Springfield; 1 arrested
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Police have arrested a 22 year old man for questioning in a deadly shooting in east Springfield.
Officers responded to the 1400 block of East Atlantic Street around 2 a.m. Wednesday. Neighbors told police they heard gunshots. Police found Christopher L. Kuder, 41, of Springfield, dead from a gunshot in the street near an SUV pulling a small trailer. A neighbor tried CPR, but could not revive the man.
Police arrested Mickal O. Johnson, 22, of Springfield, in an alleyway in the 2100 block of North Pickwick shortly after the shooting. Police believe the victim and suspect knew each other, but did not share a possible motive. Officers booked Johnson into the Greene County Jail. He does not face any charges.
Alexus Moritz says she has lived in the neighborhood for a little more than a year. She heard a loud bang, but says she is used to hearing the sound of gunshots in the neighborhood. She says the amount of crime in the neighborhood is very concerning.
“I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it’s drug-related,” said Morirtz. That kind of stuff happens in this neighborhood all the time. I see it unfold a lot. There’s plenty of times where right down the street, I’ll see drug deals. I’ll see them hand the stuff.”

This incident marks the eleventh homicide investigated by Springfield Police Department in 2021.
