Abby Dyer

Abby graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology and a Bachelor of Journalism. Also while in Columbia, she worked on-air at KOMU-TV as a weathercaster where she learned the tools of the trade. Abby had an interest in weather and science from a very young age, and always enjoyed watching the local news for the weather forecasts. Originally from Highland, IL, she grew up visiting the Ozarks with her family for fishing trips and family visits and is so happy to work in the beautiful Ozarks, where the weather is always exciting!

While in college, Abby received the prestigious Hollings Scholarship through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and got to intern with the National Weather Service in Hawaii, where she studied the effects of volcanic aerosols and their movement around the islands in various wind patterns.

Abby covered the weekend evening newscasts for two years before being promoted to cover the noon and 5 pm shows Monday through Friday. In 2017, she added the ABC affiliate midday newscasts to her workload, and can now be seen on both KSPR and KY3 weekdays at 11 a.m., noon, 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. You'll also find her filling in from time to time on Ozarks Today and the late evening news. Additionally, anytime severe weather strikes, she'll be here.

Abby is an Emmy award-winning meteorologist and member of the American Meteorological Society, where she is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist. In 2019, she was awarded the Mid-America Emmy for "Best Weather Anchor". In 2017, she was awarded the "Best Weathercast" from the Missouri Broadcaster's Association and received both the Gold and Silver awards from the Kansas City press club for her virtual reality graphics in 2019. The Springfield Business Journal named her a "40 under 40" honoree in the 2017 class.

In 2016, she married her husband Joseph, an Ozarks native. Together, they love exploring the beautiful lakes and hiking trails available in the Ozarks, playing tennis, traveling, and are always looking for a new TV series to binge. They share two dogs, Charlie & Ike, who often makes cameos on air and her social media, and a feisty cat, Olive.

Serving the community through thoughtful, accurate forecasts is her passion. With every weathercast, she strives to explain the science behind the forecast and hopes her viewers walk away with a little piece of weather knowledge they didn't possess before.

Serving the community through outreach and volunteer work fills a lot of Abby's time while she is not on camera. She has mentored many students over the years and given weather presentations and lessons to thousands of kids. Abby has emceed numerous charitable events, and plans to continue her work with local non-profits.
