Joe Hickman, a native of the Ozarks, has been with KYTV for over three decades, most of that time as a sports reporter and weekend anchor. During that time he covered virtually every major sporting event in the region including the 1985 I-70 World Series between the Cards and Royals (won by the Royals), the Cardinals World Championships in 2006 and 2011, the Royals World Championship in 2015, the Missouri State Lady Bears trips to the basketball Final Four in 1992 and 2001, the Drury men's basketball national championship in 2013, the Evangel men's basketball national championship in 2002, the Drury Lady Panthers basketball national runner-up finish in 2004, the College of the Ozarks men's basketball national championship in 2006 and the St. Louis Rams Super Bowl win in 2000. His weekly feature segment "Joe's Journal" won numerous Emmy, Missouri Broadcaster and Kansas City Press Club awards as well as the top national honor from the Radio Television Digital News Association, the Edward R. Murrow Award. The RTDNA is the world's largest professional organization devoted exclusively to broadcast and digital journalism.

"I have had the honor of covering the biggest events in sports over the years and meeting legendary coaches and players from all over the country," Hickman said. "But what I really enjoy the most is the chance to meet the people of the Ozarks every single day and be given the honor of getting to know them and share their stories with our viewers. Every single person has a story to tell and even though they may be strangers when we meet, that connection of being their voice to the rest of the world gives us a bond that I take very seriously. I really do consider them family and feel I owe it to them to represent their lives in a respectful and proper way." Hickman moved from sports to news following a re-structuring of KY3 News in 2017 by new owner Gray Television.
