Host & Executive Producer
Melanie Steen is the Executive Producer and Co-Host of The Place. It’s KY3’s new lifestyle and entertainment show, airing weekdays at 11:30 a.m. She joined the team in April 2020.
Prior to relocating to Springfield, Melanie lived in her hometown (St. Louis) where she was a Co-Host for STL Live and The Best of the STL. She was also a Field Reporter on the Emmy-Award winning program, Inside Sports, covering professional and high school sports in St. Louis.
This isn’t Melanie’s first time launching a lifestyle show. She worked at WICS/WRSP-TV in Springfield, IL where she was the Executive Producer and Host of Good Day Marketplace.
Melanie got her start in radio back in 1995. A few years later, she transitioned into working in television and was excited when she landed her first TV job in her hometown at KPLR 11, where she was a General Assignment Reporter. Eventually, she would become the station’s Morning Weather Anchor. She’s also held on-air weather positions at KTVI Fox 2 and KMOV Channel 4.
Her weather experience would lead her to the west coast where she was a fill-in Weather Anchor and Morning Traffic Anchor at KGTV ABC 10 in San Diego.
Melanie has done on-air freelance work in other TV markets including in Tucson (KOLD-TV). She also helped out with weather coverage post-hurricane Katrina at WDSU-TV in New Orleans. But it was her work for The Nancy Grace Show (CNN Headline News) that’s she’s most proud of. She reported on various missing child cases for two years, including the Missouri Miracle when Shawn Hornbeck and Ben Ownby were safely returned home. She also reported on 3-year-old Joshua Childers who had gone missing from his home and was later found safe in the Mark Twain National Forest.
For the past several years, Melanie has been a volunteer with American Eskimo Rescue of St. Louis. She adopted her dog Peyton from the group and manages their Twitter page @eskiedog1. She has another rescue named Eli, a min pin who was previously a Pet of the Week on her previous show. She is passionate about animal rescue and enjoys spreading the word about rescues in need of a new home.
Melanie earned a B.A. and M.A. in Communications from Lindenwood University. She has experience teaching undergraduate students at Maryville University in St. Louis. She has earned numerous awards for her hosting work and is very excited to call Springfield her new home!
