SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The city of Springfield confirms two contracted workers suffered injuries at the Southwest Water Treatment Plant.
The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. Springfield Fire Department Chief David Pennington says these were contracted workers doing work on a large tank at the wastewater treatment facility.
Investigators say as they worked on the solid waste tank, a torch ignited methane gas from it. The workers jumped off the roof of the tank from about 15 feet high.
Chief Pennington says he believes the injuries are not life-threatening. The two remain hospitalized.
