Police say a student has died from injuries after he was struck by an SUV Monday afternoon outside Campbell Elementary School.

Riddick A. Tudor, 10, of Springfield died in the accident. Two Campbell Elementary employees, Pam Gagney, 52, of Springfield, and Elisa Schmidt, 49, of Springfield suffered non-life threatening injuries. Three children ages 10, 6, and 10 are listed in stable condition at a Springfield hospital.

The school will have crisis counselors available for students and staff Tuesday.

The crash happened in the 500 block of South Grant outside of Campbell Elementary. It happened as school was letting for the day. Police say a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Lonnie Yeager, 35, of Springfield, was northbound on Grant Avenue when he reportedly experienced a medical episode. The vehicle drove off the roadway striking the group of adults and children standing on the sidewalk on the northeast corner of Grant and Mt. Vernon. A passenger in the vehicle was able to place the vehicle in park, but not until after several persons were injured.

It appears the driver suffered a medical emergency, leading to the crash. Yeager is hospitalized.

The Springfield Police Department's traffic team is conducting an investigation. Impairment does not appear to be a factor at this time.
