SEARCY COUNTY, Ark. -- The Arkansas State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting resulting in the death of Daniel Allen Yielding, 23, of Paragould.
Yielding had an outstanding warrant for violating his parole and was seen running from a home in Marshall on Thursday.
Rebecca Koellner, of Marshall, said,“Yesterday I saw a whole bunch of cars going by and an ambulance and I was starting to get spooked.”
People who live in the area said it was an unusual sight in Marshall.
Koellner said, “It went on all night until I went to bed, and I go to bed early. And I got up this morning and there were still cop cars going by. And I know we don’t have that many police cars in town.”
Officers continued the search Friday when Yielding was spotted in the woods off highway 27 north near Marshall, and police said he was armed with a knife.
City and state police, the Searcy County Sheriff’s Office, a K-9 unit, and the Arkansas Game and Fish commission were all involved in the manhunt.
State police said when officials told Yielding to drop the knife, he refused and started moving forward, and that’s when a correctional officer shot him.
Koellner said, “We locked all the doors and I just felt spooked. I just didn’t know what was going on.”
State police conducted interviews after the shooting at the Searcy County Sheriff’s Office.
The state will be conducting an autopsy.
The correctional officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, per policy.
