Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris launches relief campaign for the Bahamas
Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris has announced a new campaign aimed at supporting the Bahamas in the wake of Hurricane Dorian.
The campaign, called "Anglers for the Bahamas: Fishin' for a Mission" will work with fishing industry partners to help those affected in the Bahamas recover from catastrophic damage.
The campaign has already raised nearly $2,000,000 since being launched this morning.
Bass Pro Shops says they are contributing a minimum of $1,000,000 toward the relief efforts. Half of the amount is in donated goods, and the other half is in the form of a cash donation to Convoy of Hope.
Among the goods donated Bass Pro Shops is supplying affected families with family-sized tents, outdoor cooking kits, and protein-rich snacks.
The company says it has also teamed up with Tyson Foods to donate 125,000 meals, and is working with at least 27 other businesses on the effort.
“All of us at Bass Pro Shops are heartbroken by the devastation in the Bahamas, which hold a special place in the hearts of all anglers. We understand anglers and many others may feel the same way and want to help but simply don’t know where to start," said Johnny Morris. "Beyond our pledge of financial support, we feel we can play a far greater role in supporting the Bahamas and its wonderful people by uniting anglers with an efficient and highly respected relief organization, Convoy of Hope.”
The relief campaign has also launched a website which can be found at anglersforthebahamas.org.
