Crash with pickup injures bicyclist in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - A bicyclist is hospitalized with life threatening injuries after he was hit by a pickup a few minutes before 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say Jeffrey Potts of Republic, was riding his bike eastbound when a northbound truck hit him on Kansas Expressway at Bennett Street. Police said Tuesday afternoon that they believe the pickup driver, who also lives in Republic, had the green light and Potts was crossing Kansas on a red light.

The northbound lanes of Kansas Expressway were closed through most of rush hour for the accident investigation. Police found no indication that the pickup driver, who was cooperative, was impaired.

Potts is a master control operator for KY3. He was on his way to work.
