Christmas Coalition aims to make Branson "The Christmas City of Mid-America"
Summertime is the height of the Branson tourism season, but a group called the Branson Christmas Coalition wants to make Christmas time in Branson just as popular.
"In the month of July, everybody knows we're busy seven days a week; everything runs seven days a week. In November and December businesses run four to five days a week," says Peter Herschend with Silver Dollar City. "Our objective is to make Christmas so busy in November and December that it's like July."
Peter Herschend with Silver Dollar City is part of the coalition. He says more visitors would mean more money in the local economy.
"We have tremendous capacity here in Ozark Mountain Country to absorb not a few hundred more; thousands more visitors; and the benefit to our community in jobs, in construction, in the overall economy in doing that in november and Decebner is going to be huge."
To kick off it's inagural season, the Branson Christmas Coalition has started a contest to show off the best Christmas Tree. With four different categories from residential, business, hotel/motel and churches and non-profits.
"We want people to participate to have a sense of, oh my gosh, this is really something big," says Herschend.
And with any luck, it will only keep growing
