TEXAS COUNTY, Mo. -- A homicide investigation is underway in Texas County after a man was found shot alongside a highway early Thursday morning.
Shortly after 7 am, Texas County Sheriff Scott Lindsey says someone was driving down W Highway, when they noticed a man lying in a ditch next to this red blanket. At that time, the man was still alive. The person called 911. Soon after, the man died.
The unidentified man was found near the intersection of Highways 17 and W, in the small community of Midvale, about 5 miles north of Summersville.
The man was found right in front of Michael Morley's home.
"It's kind of crazy because I mean, it was literally three feet from where I get in and out of my truck every morning, Morley said. So that's really crazy. And the fact that I managed to sleep through it was kind of the worst."
"We do have a person of interest in custody right now. It's really too early to speculate on charges or anything. We're still in the active investigation phase of this incident," Sheriff Scott Lindsey told KY3.
That person's name has not been released at this time.
"We don't believe this was a stranger on stranger incident, Sheriff Lindsey added. We believe that the parties involved were familiar with each other. I don't think the public needs to be any extra cautious at this point."
Sheriff Lindsey says this is the county's first homicide of 2019.
One that is too close to home for Morley.
"I moved to the country from the city to get away from that type of stuff," Morley exclaimed.
KY3 will continue to follow this story and provide updates as we get them.
