Downtown parking cost soars as price to park increases again
Fans of the Springfield Cardinals may have noticed a price increase downtown. Plaza Realty and Management raised prices for downtown parking near Hammons Field, Friday night.
Prior to opening day, the company said it would charge fans twenty dollars to park in the lot closest to Hammons Field. On April 9th, KY3/KSPR received an e-mail from the president of Plaza Realty and Management Services, who owns the lot, stating that the price would increase, but would not cost twenty dollars.
At that time, the company stated the rate would range between ten to fourteen dollars. However, Friday evening the price to park at the same lot was listed as twenty dollars.
While the lot filled up, some fans stated they were unhappy with the price increase, particularly those that need to park close for health reasons.
"It costs more to park than to go see the ball game, and I came for the entertainment of the ball game, not the parking," said Springfield Cardinals fan David Ethridge, "But I can't walk from the house, so I have to park the car somewhere, and there is not enough other lots."
Another fan stated that they do not mind spending the extra cash. KY3/KSPR has reached out to Plaza Realty and Management Services for comment on the rate increase. The company has not yet responded to that request.
