Fire damages a house in Springfield
Firefighters are investigating what caused a house to go up in flames Thursday morning. The fire started around 12:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of West Monroe, between Madison and State.
Firefighters searched the home and didn't find anyone inside. A neighbor says squatters may be to blame. "I do know the house is condemned. It doesn't have any electricity or water or anything so it's concerning for me because there's a lot of people coming through that just don't seem that they mean the best for this neighborhood," said Jen Dunbar.
Dunbar says this isn't the first time firefighters have been called to the house. She says the shed in the backyard has been set on fire several times.
