Fire chief confirms one person is dead following strong storm in Aurora, Mo.

AURORA, Mo. -- Aurora, Mo. Fire Chief Robert Ward confirms one person died following storms early Saturday morning.

The death happened inside a motel on the city's south side. The victim's name has not been released. Investigators say others inside the motel escaped unharmed.

Chief Ward says they are working to re-open closed roads and have power restored to the hospital. The Missouri Highway Patrol has shut down U.S. 60 between Aurora and Marionville because of downed power lines.

A strong storm blew through that part of Lawrence County shortly before 1 a.m. The strong line of storms led to several tornado warnings Saturday morning.
