GREENE COUNTY, Mo. -- Firefighters responded to a large fire at a boat repair shop off of Farm Roads 129 and 92 near Ritter Springs Park Sunday evening.
Lt. Chad Shell of the Willard Fire Protection District said there was damage to the building but no one was hurt.
"To my knowledge there are no boats in [the building]. There were approximately four out front, one sustained heavy damage, the other three sustained some but were not bad," he said.
A neighbor who lives across the street from the business said she thought she heard gun shots before she looked out her window and realized the business was on fire.
"We were able to keep the fire contained to the shop adjacent to the house the family lived in," Lt. Shell said. He added, "So the fire did not get into the home but there is some smoke damage."
Brookline, Ebenezer and Springfield Fire Departments all helped bring water and fight Sunday's fire. Fire Fighters say chemicals used for boat repairs as well as welding gas made for extra trouble while putting out the fire.
Farm Road 129 was closed off while crews put out the fire, but has since been reopened.
