Head-on crash kills 4 north of Lebanon
The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly head-on crash on Friday afternoon between two cars on Missouri 5, near Orchard Drive, just north of Lebanon near the rural Water District tower.
Lebanon Rural Fire District Chief Phillip Pitts says two people were inside each of the cars. There were no survivors.
A witness says a southbound car was speeding, weaving in and out of traffic on the three-lane highway and making bad passes before it hit a northbound car. The witness says a man was driving the southbound car and a woman was in the passenger seat. She said at least one man was in the other vehicle.
The Highway Patrol has not released the names of the victims, pending family notification.
Traffic in both directions was blocked and travelers were diverted to county and city roads. A traveler called the newsroom shortly before 6 p.m. and said southbound traffic was backed up all the way to Camdenton, about 20 miles away.
