SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- How sweet it is!
The Missouri State Lady Bears advanced to the NCAA Women's Tournament's 'Sweet 16' with its win in Ames, Iowa against Iowa State Monday night. The No. 11 seeded Lady Bears will play No. 2 Stanford Saturday in Chicago. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
The campus is a buzz over the success of the Lady Bears program. The school last made it to the 'Sweet 16' in 2001 when Jackie Stiles led them to the eventual Final Four. Most students here do not remember that time all too well.
"I think I was probably about five last time that happened," said
Fiona Lefresne, MSU student. "So to be able to be here the next time they made a historic run like this is great, honestly. It's so good for the university even, to see that we can compete with the big boys and big girls and know that we are just as good as them."
The university is working to put together travel packages with bus companies and hotels for fans who want to attend the game.
The Lady Bears remain the lowest seed in the tourney.
