Elderly veteran robbed at gunpoint in Greene County

NEAR SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Deputies are investigating an armed robbery that happened at an apartment complex in the 3300 block of South Farm 135, in southwest Springfield, off Golden Avenue Tuesday morning.

Three masked men approached an elderly man around 4:30 a.m., at least one was armed with a handgun. The victim was forced into his apartment and robbed.

While deputies were processing the scene, there was a report of four men breaking into vehicles just south of the robbery location. Deputies checked the area and were unable to locate anyone.

The victim, an 89-year-old man who just wanted to be referred to by his first name, says he told the robbers his wallet was in his bedroom, however, they never located it.

On two occasions, the robbers held a gun to his head while still ransacking the bedroom.

In the end, a third man walked up and realized the other two weren't finding anything, so he said to them, 'let's go.'

Deputies are still searching for the suspects.
