Greene County deputies arrest man in death of woman east of Springfield

NEAR SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Charges are expected soon in the murder of a woman on the city's east side.

The Greene County Sheriff's Office responded Tuesday night to the home in the 4000 block of East Whitehall. The neighborhood is located east of U.S. 65, near Sunshine Street. Deputies say they found Angela Cox, 53, inside the home. Her husband called 911 just before 6 p.m. The sheriff's office says it appears Cox died from a gunshot wound.

That person was arrested in Taney County just after 3:00 Wednesday morning and booked on suspicion of tampering with a vehicle. On Wednesday, authorities said they expected first-degree murder charges to be filed very soon. However, as of 6:00 pm Wednesday, the charges were still pending.

Neighbors say Angela was a sweet lady who will be dearly missed. They're shocked and saddened about what has taken place.

Courtney Wilson said, "We have lived here for two and a half years and we love the neighborhood. So this is very scary and tragic that it happened just a few houses down from us. We would never have thought anything like this would happen in this neighborhood. It is a great neighborhood with great people."
