Carmelita Wilson, 41, pleaded guilty to three charges including assault and tampering with a motor vehicle. Police found her mom bleeding on a street in November 2016.

The Benton County Sheriff said deputies found the 56-year-old woman on a road north of Warsaw. The woman said Wilson, beat and stabbed her. She said she lost consciousness, and awoke to find Wilson and her two grandchildren gone, along with her vehicle.

The woman told deputies that she let Wilson come to her house to visit the children, who were in her legal custody.

The sheriff asked the Missouri State Highway Patrol to issue the Amber Alert. Sedalia police saw the car and set up spike strips. After the tires were spiked, Wilson tried to jump a curb but hit another vehicle. Officers arrested Wilson and found the children in the car uninjured.

The judge sentenced Wilson to 17 years in prison.
