Judge sentences Springfield man in the shooting death of a teenager in 2017

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A judge sentenced a Springfield, Mo. man in the deadly shooting of a teenager in February 2017.

Chase Adams will spend the next 20 years behind bars for the killing of Zechariah Miles, 19, in the Grant Beach Neighborhood.

Investigators say Adams shot Zechariah Miles at a home in the 1500 block of West Hamilton, just east of Kansas Expressway and a couple of blocks south of Division Street. Police said a woman inside the home called 911. Officers found Adams with a gunshot wound.

Investigators say two witnesses later told police about messages that Adams posted on online social media sites. One message to the first witness at 10:06 a.m. said, "I'm the one that been shootn over there." Another message at 10:18 a.m. said, "Whatever ill be back thorough after the police gone."

Detectives learned about "a past disturbance" in December of 2016 between Miles and a friend of Adams over a purchase of a handgun. The disagreement was about the amount of money Miles paid for the gun.
