The Dad 2 Dad Networking lunches are underway in Springfield.
The lunches focus on a number of ways you can be a better father to your kids. The most recent topic; how to have a difficult conversation.
Some people want to avoid tough topics with kids about things like the birds and the bees, an irrational fear or divorce.
But, avoiding a tough topic is not the answer. Some of the best advice includes, don't talk too much during a critical conversation.
"I would even say listen, listen, listen. Stop them every so often and say, so, if I've got this right. so, what you're really worried about. Make sure you understand before adding any information on your own, " commented clinical psychologist Dr. Jennifer Baker of Good Dads.
So, do your best not to interrupt and do stay focused on one topic.
The next lunch is Tuesday (September 17th) at The Downtown Church on East Walnut Street. Dr. Shelby Smith will talk about body image and weight issues for kids. It's just 10 dollars to register.
A link to registration information is on the right of the page on a desktop computer. It's at the bottom of the page on the app.
