CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Meteor lights up night sky across the Ozarks

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - If you witnessed a bright flash across the Ozarks sky Friday night, you are not alone. Several people say they saw the bright flash, and some even saw the object in the sky break apart.

The Springfield National Weather Service says one of its co-op members witnessed the meteor streak across the sky around 7:20 p.m. before it finally broke apart. Some witnesses say they also heard a loud boom at the moment it tore apart.

Calls to the KY3 Newsroom came in from near Springfield, Ozark, Eminence, Buffalo, Ava, Mountain Grove, West Plains and even as far north as Columbia, and as far south as Camp and Mountain Home in northwest Arkansas.

There are no reports of any debris actually hitting the ground in this area.
