Troopers identify teenager who drowned at the Lake of the Ozarks
Eric Dietrich, a 13-year-old boy from Geneseo, Illinois, has been identified as the teen who drown at the Lake of the Ozarks Wednesday evening.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Dietrich jumped off an anchored boat in the Salt Hollow Cove (MM21) to swim.
Dietrich is believed to have had a medical condition.
Troopers say he was not wearing any safety device when he jumped into the water from the anchored boat.
Troopers say the body of the young boy was recovered by dive teams with the Osage Beach and Mid-County Fire Protection Districts.
Sgt. Scott White with Troop F of the Missouri State Highway Patrol says the boy was in 18 feet of water when dive teams found him, but did not have specifics.
Officers will continue their investigation and interview witnesses, and will release full details, including the name of the young boy, in their online report.
Troopers say family was on scene and have all been notified.
