More than 2 dozen mumps cases seen at University of Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- State health officials say more than two dozen mumps cases have been reported at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

Last month, the university said all students must have up-to-date vaccinations in order to attend classes. Mumps is caused by a virus and is spread through coughing and sneezing, and it often spreads quickly in schools and dormitories.

The health department says all but one of the 26 people with mumps had been fully vaccinated.
